New Business Developer

Connecting with companies, understanding their international hiring needs and helping them find the right way forward.

“Every company has a different story behind why they want to hire internationally. I enjoy getting to know that story first. Once you understand what a company really needs, it becomes much easier to find a solution that actually fits.”

—Tanja van Haeren, New Business Developer at ThisWorks

My role at ThisWorks

Hi, I’m Tanja, New Business Developer at ThisWorks.

I’m definitely a people person, so a big part of what I enjoy about my role is simply talking to people. I speak with companies that are exploring international hiring, expanding into new countries or trying to understand what their options are when employing someone abroad.

For me, those conversations are not about jumping straight into a sales pitch. I like to understand what is happening behind the request first. Where does the company want to hire? What are they trying to achieve? What challenges have they already come across? And, most importantly, what would make the process easier for them?

Working at ThisWorks has given me a close view of the different questions companies face when hiring internationally. Employer of Record, payroll, immigration and local employment requirements can quickly become complicated, especially when several countries are involved. My role is to help clients make sense of the possibilities, connect them with the right expertise within our team and keep the conversation moving in the right direction.

I also really enjoy the relationship-building side of business development. To me, a good business relationship is about more than reaching an agreement. It is built through trust, honest conversations and staying involved when someone needs support.

I get a lot of energy from meeting new people, discovering new opportunities and seeing what can come from bringing the right people together. And yes, a quick call with me may occasionally turn into a slightly longer conversation!

More about me

Outside of work, sitting still for too long is not really my thing. I enjoy staying active, spending time with friends and family and discovering new places and experiences.

I’m also a big animal lover and will rarely say no to anything involving animals. I like keeping life social and active, but I also appreciate the smaller moments: good company, a good conversation and plenty of humour along the way.

I believe the same balance works well professionally too: ambition and hard work are important, but there should always be room for personality and a smile.
